This one needs your exact birth time and city. The Ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes, so an hour of error is roughly half a sign.
The rising sign is the fastest moving point in a birth chart. While the Sun spends a month in a sign, the Ascendant runs through the entire zodiac in a single day, changing sign roughly every two hours. Two people born in the same city on the same day, four hours apart, share a Sun sign and almost nothing about their charts otherwise.
That speed is exactly why it needs a real birth time and a real place. The city is not a formality: it gives the coordinates that define your horizon and the historical time zone with its daylight saving rules, which decides what your local clock time actually meant in universal time.
How to read your Ascendant
The first impression
Traditionally the rising sign describes the way you arrive in a room before anyone knows you: your pace, your manner, the face you present by default.
The chart frame
The Ascendant sets the first house cusp, and with it the position of all twelve houses. Change the Ascendant and every planet in the chart lands in a different area of life.
The ruler matters
The planet that rules your rising sign becomes the chart ruler. Where that planet sits often says more about your direction than the rising sign alone.

What is a rising sign?
It is the zodiac sign that was rising over the eastern horizon at your exact moment of birth, seen from your exact place of birth. It marks the start of the first house and orients the whole chart.
Can I find my rising sign without a birth time?
Not honestly. The Ascendant changes sign about every two hours, so without a time you are choosing between several signs. Astrologers use rectification, working backwards from life events, but that is an interpretive process and not something a calculator can do for you.
How exact does the birth time need to be?
Within a few minutes is ideal. Ten minutes of error moves the Ascendant by about two and a half degrees, which usually keeps the sign but can shift house cusps. If you were born near a sign boundary, even five minutes matter.
Why is my rising sign different from other calculators?
Usually because of the time zone. Historical daylight saving rules changed often and by country, and many tools apply the modern offset to an old date. We resolve the zone from the city and the actual birth date.
Is the rising sign more important than the Sun sign?
They answer different questions. The Sun describes what you are here to develop, the Ascendant describes how you meet the world and how the rest of your chart is organised. Neither replaces the other.
