Zodiac signs of Formula 1 World Champions
Thirty-five drivers have won the Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship from 1950 to 2025, 76 titles in all. Below is the Sun sign and the Mars sign of every one of them, counted against the only fair baseline: one chance in twelve for each sign.
The short answer
No sign stands out. With 35 champions, chance alone puts about 2.9 in each sign. The real counts run from 0 to 6. A chi-square test against an even split gives 7.86 (11 degrees of freedom) and p = 0.73: in about 73 of 100 random draws of 35 people the counts look at least this uneven.
That is what a sample of this size usually looks like. The counts neither confirm nor refute anything about astrology, and they do not predict who will win next.

expected by chance: 2.9 · * born on a sign-change day, see below
Taurus has none and Aries has 6, but two births fall on the day the Sun changes sign (Ayrton Senna: Pisces or Aries; Phil Hill: Aries or Taurus). We do not know their birth hour, so they are counted at noon UTC. Move them to the other sign and the spread gets more even, not less.
For scale: when 35 people are dropped into twelve signs at random, at least one sign stays empty 47% of the time, and at least one sign collects 6 or more 64% of the time (200,000 simulated draws). An empty sign and a crowded one are normal at this size.
Mars: the planet astrologers tie to drive
Mars is the planet traditionally tied to drive, speed and competition, so it is the other natural thing to count. Its sign among the champions: chi-square 5.80, p = 0.89. The most common Mars sign is Cancer (6), the sign where traditional astrology considers Mars weakest, a good reminder to treat small counts with care.
Mars stays in a sign for about two months on average (much longer around a retrograde), so its sign depends on the date, not on the time of day, except on ingress days (marked in the table).
What this does and does not show
It tests one simple claim: that the Sun sign alone separates champions from everyone else. It finds no support for it. A birth chart holds far more than one sign, and 35 people are too few to detect a small effect either way.
Signs are not exactly equal in length. The Sun spends between 29.5 and 31.5 days in a sign, which is 8.1% to 8.6% of the year against 8.3% for one twelfth. At this sample size that shifts the expected count by about a tenth of a champion, so we use 1/12 for clarity.
Counting titles instead of drivers makes Capricorn lead with 15 of 76, but that is two drivers, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, with seven titles each. Titles of one person are not independent, which is why we count champions.
Method and sources
Champions and their title years come from the Wikipedia list of Formula One World Drivers' Champions (35 drivers, seasons 1950 to 2025). Every birth date was checked in two places, Wikidata and the Wikipedia article, and they agree for all 35.
Sun and Mars longitudes come from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same engine that calculates every chart on AstraBrain, in the tropical zodiac. Birth hours are not known for most of these drivers, so positions are taken at 12:00 UTC on the birth date. A sign counts as certain only when the body does not change sign anywhere between 12 hours before the birth date starts and 12 hours after it ends, which covers any local birth time on Earth.
The test is a chi-square test of the counts against an even split over the twelve signs (11 degrees of freedom). Where a cusp birth could go either way, both choices were tried, and the worst case is the figure shown.

Questions
Which zodiac sign has the most Formula 1 champions?
By drivers, Aries has the most (6 of 35), but two of those births fall on a sign change and the count is within chance. By titles, Capricorn leads because Schumacher and Hamilton are both Capricorns with seven titles each.
Do Capricorn drivers win more?
The two most successful drivers, Schumacher and Hamilton, were both born under the Sun in Capricorn, four days apart in January. Among all 35 champions Capricorn has 3, about what chance gives (2.9).
Does this prove astrology wrong?
No. It checks one simple claim and finds nothing. Astrology as practised reads a whole chart, and a count of 35 people cannot confirm or rule out a subtle effect. It also says nothing about the next champion.
Where do the birth dates come from?
From Wikidata and Wikipedia, which agree on all 35 dates to the day. The positions of the Sun and Mars are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris.
How to read this page
Planetary positions are calculated exactly with the Swiss Ephemeris. The interpretation is written by AI from those positions. Astrology is used here as a tradition of interpretation, not as a forecast: it does not predict race results, careers, money or health. Treat this as a way of reading the sky.
